MSC Software is pleased to announce the release of 2012.2.1 versions of Patran, FEA, AFEA, TFEA and MSC Fatigue, to provide several defect corrections to the 2012.2 versions. These corrections enhance Patran’s usability and help you achieve more from your simulations. Some key corrections/improvements include:
Attachment of large result files including XDB files output by MSC Nastran (> 5 Gb) and .t16 files created by Marc
Improved CAD support and import of STEP file
Improved MSC Nastran writer, with additional and fixed keywords and fields for composite materials
Additionally, documentation has also been improved to provide more information on some capabilities of Patran 2012.2. A complete list of defects corrected in this release is available on SimCompanion at the following link.

Capabilities: Direct Access of CAD Geometry Patran enables access to geometry from leading CAD systems forcreating finite element models. Support for many industry-standardgeometry exchange formats is also provided. An option is alsoavailable for direct import from and export into Parasolid formatsupported by several CAD systems. All finite elements, loads,boundary conditions, and material properties can be associated tothe geometry.
Advanced Geometry Creation, Editing and FeatureRecognition Patran contains an advanced set of geometry creation tools inaddition to the direct CAD access capabilities for generatingfinite element model geometry. Patran also has a sophisticated feature recognition capability thatallows users to delete or edit holes, fillets, and chamfers. For 3Dsolid geometry, existing meshes and loads will be automaticallyre-applied to the model after a change is made to the geometry.
Support for Multiple FEA Solvers Patran is tailored to support both MSC Nastran and MD Nastran toenable the use of common finite element models and perform advancedengineering analysis and enhance designs using Nastran’s DesignOptimization and Topology Optimization capabilities.

Imaging encompasses the complete graphicscapability found within the Patran product, including graphicshading and visual verification prior to analysis. Imaging featuresa number of options that take advantage of specialized hardwarecapabilities, including local view manipulation, local shading,multiple light sources, and transparency. You can also exportimages and movies in many standard formats to include in documentsand web-based reporting.

PCL is a high-level, block-structured languagethat provides many features found in traditional programminglanguages.
